The Blue Reef Team consists of undoubtedly some of the most energetic and resourceful talents ever assembled in a St. Lucian based business. Through team work, perseverance and group encouragement; the Blue Reef Team has become more than a business. It has become a family.
Each member of this family plays a vital role in the overall success of the company, much like how vital organs ensure the continuance and strength of a human body. To this effect, we may consider Maria Buchner (Blue Reef Manager) the head, or mind of the company. But what gives this mind strength? What is the motivation, the driving force behind Blue Reef? If Maria is the mind, where does the core lie? Who is the heart?
The answer may surprise new comers and clients, but not seasoned friends and acquaintances that have interacted with the team.
The core of Blue Reef is simply one name. “Wookie”.

Wookie is the given name of Blue Reef’s famous/infamous Irish Wolf Hound. This lovable canine is the light and heart of the company. The name Wookie was given to him by a St. Lucian lady, as a funny observation on his striking resemblance to Han Solo’s hairy and loyal side kick “Chewbacca”; in the movie sensation Star Wars.
Wookie is more than just a pet dog, and far from a mascot, as he is a key sales administrator/property inspector who takes his field work very seriously. More over, his loyalty and unending love for his master and family has proved to be exemplary. He is the heart, which binds the Blue Reef family together.
Details of Wookie’s origin are sketchy, but information indicates that he first touched St. Lucian soil over 7 years ago. Originally the pup of a sailor, Wookie was unfortunately left behind without anyone to look after him in a foreign land.
Orphaned, he aimlessly traversed St. Lucia eating what he could, and sleeping under houses and old sheds to shelter the rain. In his travels, he was fortunately discovered by a humble and kind hearted animal activist- the late Jane Tipson. She cared for him, and was soon drawn to his strong, yet gentle and warm magnetism. Irish Wolf Hound’s are known for their sweet-temperament, patience and intelligence. These qualities won her over, and soon Wookie became her traveling companion. Finally he seemed to have a home, and for a time… he was happy.
Wookie’s happiness was sadly short lived, and in September of 2003, a great tragedy occurred, which claimed the life of his kind master. His loyal instincts compelled him to stay by her side even in death, until he had to be finally removed. Sad and alone, Wookie was orphaned for a second time.
A kind Samaritan temporarily came to his aid, and took care of him as best as possible. Wookie desired freedom however, and soon resumed his own personal journey. Little did he know that his journey was fated to intertwine with a kind soul, also going through a transitional period.
Maria Buchner, relatively new to the island was just starting up her business. Times were uncertain for her, and perhaps she was in need of a companion to assure her that she would be fine. One warm afternoon while having an outdoor discussion with friends, Maria caught sight of one of the biggest and shaggiest dogs she had ever seen. He just walked on down the road like he owned the place, and calmly sat down right in front of her as if to say: “Here I am.” Perhaps he had found the goal of his journey. He chose her, and from that moment on a great bond was created.
Wookie has proven himself time and again as an invaluable asset to Maria, and the Blue Reef Team. When ever situations are tense or overwhelming, he is always calm. Wookie remains Maria’s sturdy and resilient rock. He provides relief in moments of confusion, protection when needed and remains the silent listener when you need some one to talk to.
Wookie’s roles are as follows: big brother, father, property inspector, body guard, baby sitter, best friend, true companion.
“If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a human.” – Mark Twain

Allow me to introduce to you Moreen Jean, the angel behind our artistic endeavours.
Moreen Jean or affectionately known as "Mo" was born in the country of Kent, England and moved to the island of St. Lucia several years ago. She was aimed at following her dreams to become a successful artist and designer. She has fulfilled her wishes and her art has developed through various paintings. Her own desire to capture her thoughts and dreams has increased as well as her popularity across St. Lucia.
Her talent has evolved via the use of administered techniques with mixed media and natural fibres. That consequently express a balance between broad masses of colour to limped washes of pigments.
No matter what approach she uses, it allows her to keep rediscovering the poet within her. She leaves no detail unreported as captivations of various forms, shapes, structures and expressions of light progress.
Visit us at Blue Reef for a permanent exhibition of Mo's work and be captivated by her ambitious art.

Five years ago, a band of witty intellectual young people brought their minds and hearts together to form what is now called the Sauce Krew. Originally comprised of about 5 enthusiastic community college seniors(Including Blue Reef's very own Don and Kay); this group has over the years grown more than 60 strong. Each member is highly talented, as they posses a wealth of knowledge and various self taught skill sets. Each member provides a unique presence and contribution to the group, much like many ingredients and spices prepared for a delicious sauce dish. Hence the title "Sauce Krew". Through their mutual interests in technology, music and computer-gaming; this dynamic group has far exceeded the expectations of many. These young men and women have now created a network among themselves, where by mostly anything is possible to achieve as they work as a group.
The aim of the Sauce Krew is to promote and develop the awareness of technology, computer- gaming and rock music in St. Lucia. These new age concepts bridge underlying social and cultural barriers, which ultimately help place our fast growing and transforming island on the digital map, on an international scale.Competitive gaming has spawned from humble roots in St. Lucia, and come a long way. In this respect the brain child SAUCE-KON was born.
SAUCE-KON is a St.Lucian version of the popular EVO 2k gaming tournament held in the USA and Japan. The SAUCEKREW have been ambitiously working underground for years, and have finally unveiled their project of a tournament. The first of its kind in St. Lucia, Sauce Kon has been successfully gaining momentum in the gaming community. The event is backed by well-known sponsors (including Blue Reef, Choice TV etc.) and has been an excellent and educational experience for the public. There are great gamers out there, legends if you will, and these individuals posses a talent that has not been given a proper means by which healthy competition can arise. SAUCEKON was last held on February 28th at the Gros-Islet Scout headquarters. Visit the St. Lucian made website www.saucekrew.com for more information on the tournaments, game titles offered and admission.
The Sauce Krew supports healthy competition between the youth and positive rivalry. They invite one and all to share in the experience, which no doubt is the foundation and mile stone for the gaming community. The Ultimate goal is to one day be able to send a group of our most talented St. Lucians to represent us in Japan and the USA in their tourney, and take home the gold.
